CNN —A 16-year-old student died following a fight at an Oklahoma high school – and as an investigation into the cause of death continues, advocates point to a heightened and hostile climate against the LGBTQ+ community. Nex Benedict, whose family says identified as nonbinary, died February 8, one day after they told their family they and a transgender student were involved in a fight with others at Owasso High School. It is not clear if or how the fight contributed to Nex’s death. An Owasso school resource officer went to Bailey Medical Center, where Nex was examined, and interviewed both Nex and their parent about the incident. Nex’s death comes after advocates have strongly criticized Oklahoma officials for actions perceived as targeting LGBTQ+ residents.

Would the bacteria from her ear help scientists find phages that would treat the eye infections as well? By the following January, the CDC said at least 50 patients in 11 states had developed superbug infections after using preservative‐free artificial tears. It was a qualified success: The antibiotic-resistant bacteria in five patients were eradicated, while several more patients showed improvements.

CNN —Phil Mickelson has opened up about his gambling addiction, saying on Monday that it was like a “hurricane” which “caused a lot of damage” in his life. Mickelson, who has previously talked about his struggles with sports gambling, posted on X – formerly known as Twitter – about his journey with his addiction in reference to the beginning of the NFL season. “Most of you will enjoy this football season with moderation while having lots of fun and entertainment,” the six-time major winner wrote. It’s like a hurricane is going on outside and I’m isolated in a shelter oblivious to what was happening. Mickelson went on to give his advice to others that might be struggling with gambling problems.

CNN —Phil Mickelson considered a $400,000 bet on the 2012 Ryder Cup – in which he was participating – according to a book that will be released later this month by professional gambler Billy Walters. “The only other person I know who surpassed that kind of volume,” Walters wrote, “is me.”In a Thursday post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Mickelson denied betting on the 2012 Ryder Cup. Walters wrote he doesn’t know if Mickelson ever placed that bet. Walters suggested in the book, according to Golf Digest, that Mickelson was to blame for the prison sentence. A former New York weatherman who alleged in September that he was fired after someone sent nude webcam photos of him to his employer is speaking out against online “predators” following months of silence. After he learned the photos were taken, Adame asked Unit 4 Media for more information about the user who shared them. It is also unclear if the “pictures and videos” Adame refers to in his latest Instagram post are the same images referred to in the petition or additional images. Toward the end of his latest video, Adame shared a message with his followers. Adame told NBC News that he still hasn’t found work since his departure from NY1.

A gay meteorologist in New York City who was allegedly fired after someone sent nude webcam photos of him to his employer and to his mother is pleading for his job back and accusing the sender of revenge porn. He said he was not paid for his appearances on the site and apologized for taking part. “I unequivocally do not apologize for being sex-positive and for being myself — for being an openly gay man,” he said. Adame, 39, said he never spoke at work about his involvement with the website, which is owned by Unit 4 Media Ltd. New York City Council Member Erik Bottcher, who represents the Manhattan district where Spectrum NY1 is located, appears to agree.
